Argentina Vs. Peru. Diego Maradona Announces Final Squad.

October 5, 2009 – 4:25 pm

Diego Maradona, the coach of the Argentine national team, opted to select Boca Juniors defender Fabian Monzon in the place of Emiliano Papa of Velez Sarsfield for the decisive World Cup qualifiers against Peru and Uruguay.

Maradona won’t be able to count with the services of Inter Milan striker Diego Milito, who was injured when playing for his club side. But they will be reinforced by Martin Palermo, who scored twice in the friendly match victory over Ghana last week. Boca team-mate Federico Insua also made the squad.

The other home-based players named in the squad are Juan Sebastian Veron and Enzo Perez of Estudiantes de La Plata, Diego Pozo of Colon de Santa Fe, Mario Bolatti of Huracan, Nicolas Otamendi of Velez and Rolando Schiavi of Newell’s Old Boys.

As well as Papa Rodrigo Brana of Estudiantes also failed to receive a call-up.

The rest of the squad is made up of 17 players who ply their trade in Europe, which include Lionel Messi of Barcelona, Javier Mascherano of Liverpool and Gonzalo Higuain of Real Madrid.

According to reports Palermo is expected to partner Messi in the Argentina attack for the clash with Peru. Higuain could be called upon for Argentina’s final qualifier against Uruguay.
